Painting my 63
« on: Apr 23, 2012, 12:36:27 PM »

I am currently in the middle of painting my 63. This project has been long over due. The car had some really bad body work done to it, many ding and dents etc.
Before I start posting on my project do any of you guys remember the article in Hot Rod magazine a few years back on the $98 paint job they did on a 62 Falcon. http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/body/hrdp_0707_1962_ford_falcon_budget_paint_job/
Well my curiosity got the best of me and after researching this to death I decided to give it a try. I have been painting cars/bikes/trucks etc since 1988 so I figured how bad could this be. If it didn't work then I could just sand it back down and shoot some single stage urethane and call it a day.
I started with the rear quarters being that's where most of the body work was. I have too many pics to post so here is the link to the paint forum I'm on. If you guys are interested in seeing the car finished then I'll post on here also.

After 2 weeks of priming and blocking I'm ready to finish the paint on the 63. Here are a few pics I took yesterday.

Just a quick update, sorry I haven't been on in a while.

Car is all rubbed and I'm putting it back together.

Still haven't gotten a radiator yet, possibly today though. A buddy of mine tracked down a almost new 62 rad without the trans cooler. So I may have to mount a cooler which is probably a lot better then stock.

I'll post some pics in a few days once I get the call back together.
Hope everyone is well.

Picked up a used radiator from a buddy of mine thats in excellect shape and a new trans cooler. All thats left is to polish the tube grill I made, get the radiator in, bend the hard lines up for the trans cooler and get the trunk lid on. Getting close.
Here are a few pics from Saturday morning.

The Art work was done by a buddy of mine from Buffalo NY, Paul Straus. I actually traded him 2 brand new Lincold welding helmets for 3 hours of striping.
